“Keeping Your Village Safe – With the right insurance and risk management system”

What insurance do you really need for your village organization?  Most insurance companies don’t offer policies that are tailored just for our needs. They would rather sell policies that are intended for businesses. That is because most insurance companies don’t really understand, or have much interest in, nonprofit organizations. But there are insurance companies,  and brokers, that do understand and appreciate the nonprofit world, and even specialize in nonprofits. In this Webinar, Tracy Denman of The CIMA Companies (www.cimaworld.com)  will describe the “must have” and “nice to have” insurance coverages for your village’s operations, its board of directors and its volunteers. CIMA, which is a partner in one of the largest insurance broker organizations in the U. S., has been serving nonprofit customers for more than 40 years.

Your volunteers are the lifeblood of your organization, but volunteer engagement carries some risk…volunteers sometimes are injured, accidentally injure others or destroy property,  or are at fault  in a vehicle accident. When those things happen, it’s a distraction at the very least. It also can damage your reputation, and  relationships with clients and volunteers. It also can make it more difficult to find affordable insurance. In the second part of our Webinar, Volunteers Insurance Service Association Executive Director William Henry will give an overview of the kinds of claims that have occurred over the decades that VIS and CIMA have been insuring volunteers, describe practical steps to minimize those risks, and suggest the building blocks of a risk management system you can develop and sustain in your own village. NOTE: William’s presentation will  be a preview of the workshop he will present at the National Village Gathering in Columbus.
