About this event

Supporting our Vulnerable Members - 10 AM PT / 11 AM MT / 12 PM CT / 1 PM ET

PRESENTER: Mitch Opalski, Synergy HomeCare
TOPIC: Villages understand the boundaries and limits of services we can provide to our members. But inevitably, some of our members will need more help. Some may ask you--their trusted village staff--for guidance. In other instances, a volunteer may be the one to notice a worrisome change in a member's abilities. Are you clear about the role of your village in this situation? Are you comfortable having a difficult conversation with a member? Whatever your village's protocol in these situations, we need to be prepared when a situation calls for intervention. In this session, Mitch Opalski will walk us through the delicate aspects of those conversations, clarify exactly what tasks home care can provide, and help us guide our members toward finding trusted resources. Mitch is the longtime owner of Synergy Home Care in Arlington, VA, who has seen many vulnerable member scenarios. Come prepared to ask any and all questions.

All Village to Village Network Members are invited to join us on a monthly call to talk about the important topic of supporting our most frail members. As the society ages, it is inevitable that our membership will age as well, so whether your Village is currently serving frail members or preparing to serve them, we will use this monthly call to unpack this complicated programming consideration.

Topics open to discussion include, but are not limited to: developing a volunteer-based care coordination system, creating healthy boundaries for member service delivery, setting realistic expectations for members and their families, coordinating with local community resources, when to make a referral to Adult Protective Services, etc. Please come with your questions and we will try to address as much as we can in the hour we have. Note: If you have any questions or comments about Frail Members, please contact vtv@vtvnetwork.org.
