RunMyVillage User Talk - 3 PM ET/ 2PM CT/ 1 PM MT/ 12PM PT

Our July 19 User Talk will be Part 3 of Why We Do Things the Way We Do.”  We will discuss different choices Villages have made to implement (or not implement) important RMV functionality. You may recall, when we last did this in May, we had many topics on the list that we did not have time to discuss.  We use these Why We Do sessions to have attendees discuss the choices Villages make to implement RMV one way and not some other way and how they use the features.

Part 3 has new topics for attendees to discuss – no presentations, just conversation among the Village and any CE/RMV attendees.  Here’s the list of topics we expect to discuss (the first three were those we did not get to in May).

  1. What do Villages do to allow/encourage members to use RMV’s on-line features?
  2. How does you Village capture and use hours for volunteers – both direct services to members and non-member services (e.g., Board, committees, office volunteers, technology)?
  3. How does your Village deal with recurring services (e.g., trash, phone buddy/check-in, shopping, mail pickup/delivery) – how to enter, track?
  4. How does your Village deal with contractors – rating, setting up contract services/categories, vetting, discounts, contractor referral, authorized list distributed, can volunteers/donors get contractor referrals?
  5. (Based on a question at the end of May’s session, we may also include Fundraising and Donations (e.g., how/what Villages do using RMV, when/why to use other applications, campaigns, reporting, segmentation [different lists for different audiences], managing the “thank you” process.)

If you have an additional topic that you or your Village would like added to the possibilities, please let us know by sending a note (see our address below).

Videos for all previous User Talk webinars are on the VtV website.

For those interested in Part 1, last November’s session, the three topics were: (1) Why and how do Villages handle various issues with volunteers and providing services (e.g., volunteer who does not want to provide services to a specific member); (2) How do Villages use Blogs/Forums and (3) How/why do Villages backup RMV files.

In Part 2, in May, the topics discussed were (1) For volunteers who are not regular members, what are the pros/cons of including them in the RMV member database vs. the non-member database and (2) How do Villages use RMV’s Membership Directory feature?  Discussion included pros/cons of having a printed version, who has access to an on-line version, how to maintain the MD; acquiring and using photos, and using the MD as one building block to “help build community.”

This is not a session for Villages new to RMV, but rather a chance for people from existing Villages to explore choices and ideas that might be useful to their Village.  Please invite anyone from your Village who you think might be interested in this topic.

If you have not signed up for the VtV RMV User Group’s Forum, please do so through (1) signing up through your Profile on the VtV site or (2) sending us a note.

These monthly talks are designed to help Villages use RunMyVillage more effectively.  Each month has a different topic.  The intended audience always includes the technology community within your Village; in addition, others in the Village may be invited based on the planned topic.  Each of the User Talks has time for Villages to ask RunMyVillage-related questions to RMV and to other Villages. Examples of what we plan for these talks: RMV new release updates and discussions, results of surveys of desired enhancements to RMV, discussion of best practices and common issues particularly where Villages use RMV in different ways, and orientations for new Villages.
